In the late 1950's and 60's, the US and Soviet Union were engaged in the Cold War. October 4th, 1957, the Soviet Union launched Sputnik 1, the first artificial satellite.
President Eisenhower responded to the challenge and in 1958 established the National Aeronautics and Space Association (NASA). The space race had begun!
The crew was comprised of Michael Collins, Buzz Aldrin, and Neil Armstrong. There was a bit of conflict over who would be first to step foot on the moon. Buzz was furious when he found out it would be Neil.
